ITSC develops and manages the University’s network infrastructure, and builds and maintains an advanced campus network to support teaching, research and administrative activities. These are driving the need for providing a high-speed access to the Internet and various Research Networks including Asi@Connect, CERNET and SingAREN etc. Tens of thousands of wired network ports, supporting communication rates up to Gigabits per second, are interconnected via optical fiber and high-speed switches. Direct access to the network is available throughout campus, including classrooms, faculty and staff offices, laboratories and residence halls. The Wireless Network of eduroam is also available to students, staff and visitors in locations across the HKUST Campus and other participating institutions.
The major components of University’s Network Infrastructure are comprised of:
Extensible switched network fabric architecture in supporting high-speed connections
Voice services for VoIP telephones, voicemail and audio conferencing
Allows remote computers to behave as though they are directly attached to the campus network
Wired network provides users in Offices and Laboratories with high speed Ethernet connection
